Conference Spotlight: Making Public Health Connections with Maven at HIMSS

by Christine Hockett, Senior Epidemiologist, Conduent Public Health

Data can make all the difference. This is true throughout government, but especially in public health, where making connections between data points can mean making a breakthrough that affects thousands or millions of citizens in a single jurisdiction. We’re looking forward to the HIMSS conference next week, and especially the HIMSS Interoperability Showcase, which provides an opportunity for the healthcare community to collaborate and demonstrate the benefits of using health IT solutions for more effective and secure health data information exchange. We are thrilled to be providing a firsthand demonstration of Maven, a public health IT product that allows users to send, receive and use electronic health information through secure data exchange.

We’re partnering with the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, Epic and JBS International to highlight how Maven leverages interoperability with hospitals and laboratories in order for public health organizations to benefit.

In meaningful use exchange, a subset of lab information indicating morbidity is transferred. From an epidemiological perspective, this is only one segment of information needed to complete the whole picture – so it doesn’t deliver everything end users need. For example, important data points such as treatment given and facilities that provide treatments are often left out of meaningful exchange. Join us as we demonstrate how this exchange process can be fortified through configurability based on morbidity. Attendees will walk away with a new understanding of how a standardized business processes can unify critical information from multiple areas and systems.

“Automating case reporting directly from hospital EHRs to the public health department is an important step in the path of improving how our public health officials interact with healthcare providers to protect their citizens,” stated Mark Marostica, Chief Operating Officer of Conduent Public Health Solutions. “We are proud to partner with Epic, JBS, and New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene in demonstrating how state and local health departments can automate the receipt of disease case reports using the Maven software platform.”

As expert resources at the HIMSS17 Interoperability Showcase, we’ll be on the showcase floor to answer your questions as we demonstrate Maven. If you’re attending this year’s 2017 HIMSS Conference and Exhibition, please visit us at the Interoperability Showcase at any of the following times:

  • Monday, February 20, 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday, February 21, 9:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
