Oklahoma WIC Program Wins Innovation of the Year

by Jerry Owens, Card Services Director, Xerox Public Sector

Women, Infants and Children (WIC) programs nationwide are constantly working to improve access to healthy food for the nation’s families. Among the most successful is Oklahoma, which has become known as a leader and innovator. And Oklahoma can now add “award winning” to its list of accolades, recently receiving “Innovation of the Year” in the 2016 StateScoop 50 Awards.

The Oklahoma program was awarded this honor for their mail-order formula solution. It efficiently handles the issuance and redemption of special or medical baby formula when an alternative is needed due to allergy or other medical reason. Previously, orders were manually placed by phone and vendors were paid outside the redemption process, resulting in incomplete data in the system.

Oklahoma WIC uses a system designed in collaboration with Xerox to accommodate the special mail-order formula complexities, while automatically recording all transaction data. With the solution, Oklahoma WIC fulfills mail-order formula needs easier, faster, with quicker settlement, accurate reporting, and efficient ordering and distribution.

The StateScoop 50 Awards annually honor programs and individuals who make state and local government more efficient and effective. Oklahoma WIC joins other Xerox client partners who have been nominated for and won top honors.

Congratulations to the Oklahoma WIC team for a well-deserved award!
